Introducing The UK Esports Awards powered by G FUEL

The people behind UKCSGO and Esports News UK are teaming up to bring you the very first UK Esports Awards.

The Awards have been formed following positive community feedback to this 2016 ENUK Awards article, a long-running idea for UK scene-focused awards from UKCSGO founder Adam “Blanks” Heath and ENUK editor Dominic Sacco, and a shared interest in promoting some of the best UK esports talent.

The inaugural UK Esports Awards powered by G FUEL will aim to take place in Spring 2018 as a livestream-only event.

Depending on demand, an after-party may also be held to celebrate the talent in person and offer a chance for networking with others in the UK scene.

While this won’t be a full-on awards show with a stage and dinner for year one, it could be a possibility for the future.

The idea is to have a balanced mix of serious awards and more lighthearted ones.

UKCSGO and Reason Gaming manager Adam “Blanks” Heath commented: “A lot happens in the UK scene every year, and while coverage is getting better across the scene, the people that put in the hard work to keep everything moving and growing tend to get overlooked. I’ve been toying with the ideas of the UK Esports Awards powered by G FUEL for some time now and, after teaming up with Dom, I feel we have a good base to build upon to make something that promotes the UK scene even more.”

Esports News UK editor Dom Sacco added: “I’ve wanted to see some kind of awards event specifically for the UK esports scene for some time now, and I’m delighted to be teaming up with Blanks on this. With his knowledge of CSGO and my background in League of Legends, I think we will make this a great event together.”

The UK Esports Awards powered by G FUELwill focus on League of Legends and CSGO predominantly, but will include other games played in the UK amateur esports scene too.

We want to recognise talent across the board, including players, organisations, managers, coaches, casters and so on.

To make sure each category is judged in the best possible way each category will be voted on in one of three possible ways.

  1. Public vote – The nominees will  be put on a poll and the winner will be decided by who gets the most unique votes.
  2. Panel decision – A winner will be picked from the final list of nominees by a panel built from select people from within the UK scene.
  3. Social media vote – A test of popularity, reach and persuasion. The winner will be decided by the number of times their bespoke hashtag can be tweeted during the voting the timeframe.

We are also in the process of gathering feedback with suggestions open to different ways voting could be conducted.

All you have to do for now is click the “Join now via Twitter” button at the top to create an account and you’ll be ready to take part in the voting as well as receive updates on what we have in store.
